Our latest quarterly analysis on ecommerce growth for food and drink businesses in the wholesale and distribution sector has revealed a steady increase in both online revenue and order volume over the last 12 months.
November 2017 in particular was a record month as there was a 37% organic growth in order volume and over 15% revenue increase compared with like for like sales in November 2016.
*Our analysis is based on a sample of order volume and revenue information from food and drink businesses operating within the wholesale, distribution and foodservice sectors.
It is encouraging to see the positive effect ecommerce is having on food and drink businesses within the wholesale, distribution and foodservice sectors as more customers utilise the convenience of online ordering facilities.
Even taking into account seasonal fluctuations, the graph above demonstrates there is an increasing trend for ecommerce as a source of revenue. The latest record breaking numbers are also a clear indicator that the wholesale sector in general is leading the way when it comes to adopting and utilising ecommerce, with great success.
We expect this growth to continue in 2018 as businesses invest significantly in new digital projects, whether that’s developing an ecommerce platform for the first time, replacing legacy systems, or just keeping up to date with the latest online and mobile technology.
